It is easy to only consider the factors of crime and an unwillingness to conform to societial norms, or simply reflect on men, and their impact on skid row’s ecosystem.
Some viewers of this site will feel deep compassion, others will be emotionally unmoved. Both sets of feelings are indeed valid.
However, not far below the surface of simple portraits are the economic and family based fractures that have - since 2007 - become an all too common plight. Homelessness on skid row has grown an est. 70% since 2010. Correspondingly, in an effort to build sustainable business models, several nonprofit missions now charge a nightly fee.
There is a clear and present element of gender inequality that is interwoven in the fabric of America, far beyond partisian politics: the red, white and blue of old glory Americanism, Americana.
My over-arching goal is to clearly inform you of the conditions that American women face daily.
Mostly for now, I’ve finished the uploading of images for Women On The Row. There is a great deal of editing to do, and also some essay narratives to post. Six years ago when I first started to record imagery and exposition of the women, I never planned to create a site. It wasn’t until I realized the importance of these women did I begin to ponder how it should be presented. You see they have been te forgotten segment inclusive in.. America’s complex culture of poverty.
